Friday, April 29th
5pm – 12:30am : The 2011 Beale Street Music Festival marks the 35th anniversary of the festival which each year attracts music enthusiasts from all 50 states and a dozen foreign countries to the storied city where rock-n-roll and blues music all began. Over the past decade the festival has attracted over 1.1 million music fans to the multistage three-day event, best known for its eclectic mix of contemporary rock, blues, soul and modern talent and its musically inspired setting. The festival is held in a beautiful 25 acre riverfront park at the foot of historic Beale Street overlooking the mighty Mississippi River.
5pm – 7pm : Memphis College of Art BFA show (pt2) , MCA in Overton Park. Featuring the work of Nikkila Carroll, Funlola Coker, Angel Bonesteel and many more MCA Spring 2011 graduates.
5pm – 7pm : MUTT: An MFA Exhibition at the Memphis College of Art Graduate Building (477 South Main Street) featuring performance works from Julie Smetana, an interactive vaginal based exhibit from Katy Luxion, large scale abstract oil paintings from Marc Rouillard, and displaced river mermaids by Emily Stout.
6pm – 9pm : “LOVE” at the Trolley Art Tour (492 South Second Street), One night only exhibition of sculpture, photography, video installation, and ceramic work by Edie Love, with the themes of anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-homophobia, and universalism. Isn’t it easier to just say LOVE? Other artists such as frank d. robinson, Karen Capps, Candace Canerdy and Harris Quinn are collaborating with something of their own to add. cello by Tamar Love, and the fabulous Chris Reeder will be dancing.
6pm – 11pm : “THE FIRE IN HER EYES” at the Jay Etkin Gallery (484 Union Avenue, across from the CA on Union) Painting and Sculpture exhibition, featuring works by Adam Farmer, Evan Lebaroff & David Tempelhoff
8pm : The action is in the FedEx Forum! Come Downtown and BELIEVE! The Memphis Grizzlies vs The San Antonio Spurs, GO GRIZZ!
10pm – 3am : BUMP @ the Pump! at the Pumping Station (1382 Poplar Ave). BUMP returns in April with DJ Nathan Ashby and his unmistakable rhythms. BUMP @ The Pump is the city’s newest monthly party (the last Friday of each month). 21+

1pm – 12:30am: The 2011 Beale Street Music Festival continues Downtown!
7pm : Tennessee Shakespeare Company will perform Romeo and Juliet at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens (4339 Park Avenue)
Sunday, May 1st
sunrise – sunsetIf you just need to get away from the city life while still being in the city head to your nearest entry point for the Greenline and head to Shelby Farms for a bit of nature and relaxation.
1pm – 10:30am: The 2011 Beale Street Music Festival continues Downtown!
1:30pm – 5:30pm: May Day Cookout at The Buccaneer Lounge (1368 Monroe Ave). Come enjoy the company of friends and fellow workers as we celebrate the achievements of the labor union movement. Bring $5 for BBQ tofu nachos and other treats! All proceeds go to your local Socialist Party and to legal defense for those arrested at the capitol on March 15! Food and jukebox or dj will start at 2.
5pm – 8pm: Sunday Pump It Up! at The Pumping Station (1382 Poplar Avenue)
